The Lincoln City Cultural Center will be filled with belly dance workshops, shows and souk (market vendors) for the inaugural Beachcomber's Belly Dance festival Saturday, Aug. 25.
Coordinated by local long-time belly dance instructor and performer, Ireta Murphy, the event will feature daytime workshops on different aspects of dance (including shimmy and belly rolls), choreography and costuming from guest instructors Wedad of Portland, Saqra of Seattle and Gayleen.
An evening performance will feature Ireta, Saqra, Wedad and others.
More than a dozen vendors will offer beaded clothing, scarves, fancy fabrics, costumes and jewelry, as well as photography by Aneta Hazelbaker.
"It's something new for the coastal area, and it's just going to be a lot of fun," Murphy, a belly dance instructor for 30 years, said.
Classes start at 9 a.m., and fees vary.
The evening performance is at 7 p.m. and admission is $7.50 per person, or $6.50 for seniors and "Red Hatters."
The Lincoln City Cultural Center is located in the historic Delake School building in Lincoln City. For more information call 994-9587.
