Sooooo sorry for the delay in commenting on this fabulous article! I was on vacation! It sounds as though this was an incredible event with no time to waste on sleeping! I can't wait to see all the great stuff you bought!!! Thank you for that lovely compliment. You are very dear to me. The pictures of you and Lilirosa are just stunning... It was so nice to see you there, I heard you had a great show; sorry I missed it, as you know I had to leave early. Too bad the event didn’t have the turn out it needed, I’m sure Alex and Co. are studying this very closely, hopefully next year the turn out will be better. Let me just make a quick comment on the reason these stars didn’t show up, this is just my guess it all had to do with the turn out, and I’m not buying this visa story. These dancers will not show up unless the event was packed and surely has nothing to do with the Egyptian and the Lebanese governments valuing their talent (one can only wish)!
One of the biggest mistakes the organizers made (in my view) was spending money on ads running on the Arabic TV stations (LBC, Future and other stations). When I saw the ads I was very surprised. I knew that the Middle Eastern community would NOT show up to a dance event, Dancers in the Middle East are brought in to shows as extra beauty for big name singers and NOT the other way around. I don’t remember the last time I saw a show in the Middle East, with a Middle Eastern audience, where the main draw was the dancer unless it’s a play like in the Caracalla troop, where the show is a musical. That is why we need all dancers to support the dance and show up to this event, and remember we are stronger together. My recommendations for next year: advertise more in the US, Europe, Japan, South America. Have a kick ass band or bands and make sure to feature live music every night. Areas of teaching, vending and shows should be very close together (keep the energy together).
